Cafe Coffee Day VG Siddhartha's father passed away in Mysuru

Sunday, August 25, 2019

Exactly 26 days after the tragic demise of Cafe Coffee Day founder VG Siddhartha, his father Gangaiah Hegde breathed his last on Sunday at Gopalgowda hospital in Mysore. Gangaiah Hegde was 95. Gangaiah was undergoing treatment for age-related illness for the last one month.

Incidentally, Gangaiah Hegde was not even aware of his son's tragic demise. Before he committed suicide, VG Siddhartha reportedly paid one last visit to his ailing father at the hospital and broke into tears. Gangaiah Hegde's funeral rites will be performed in his native village on Monday.

Gangaiah Hegde carried on his family's 130-year-old coffee business and started out as a coffee planter at an estate in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. He later became a successful businessman. Gangaiah was a great inspiration to VG Siddhartha, who revolutionised the Indian coffee shop scene by launching the Cafe Coffee Day chain.
