Strict plastic ban on roadside eateries and ‘Chaat’ centres

Monday, August 5, 2019

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has instructed owners and employees of roadside eateries, and those running ‘Chaat’ centres to shun use of plastic plates and cups to serve food.

Officials associated with the health department of MCC have initiated the campaign to ensure that plastic is eradicated at all eateries, regardless of the scale of operation.

As the Dasara is fast approaching, small eateries across the city are likely to be thronged by visitors. Use of plastic plates, cups and tumblers at such eateries will only add to the massive volume of garbage generated during the festive season, compounding an already colossal problem for the civic agency.

Officials from the MCC’s health department have been conducting regular raids on establishments to ensure adherence to the ban on plastic. The extent of the use of plastic at small eateries came into focus after MCC personnel raided a few fast food centres and eateries on the pavement near Manuvana Park, which were using plastic utensils and vessels, all of which were confiscated.
